The Lower School Art Program offers students the opportunity to discover the "Master Artist" and His many creations. The programs is developmentally sequenced and seeks to provide a multifaceted approach to art as a learnable, visual language, integrating creative expression with artistic perception, art history, and art criticism. Students use a variety of media with emphasis on a visual expression of individuality, while encouraging creativity, problem solving, an divergent thinking through sketchbook activities, and studio projects. The goal is to help students cultivate a lifelong love of art as a medium to express their thoughts, feelings, and ideas. Of course, having fun and generally making a mess are a priority!

     The mission of TFA’s Visual Arts Program is to develop and equip young people to visually impact our community and world with the foundational truth that God is our Creator. We believe God puts a part of His creative nature in each of us. Therefore, we seek to facilitate students to utilize their skills needed to accomplish this end. Students are encouraged to develop their talents so that they are able to penetrate the world of arts and entertainment and to effect change. To do this, they explore a variety of art media and thematic content, develop skills in building visual memory and use high-order thinking skills that can effectively transfer to core academics. Teachers encourage students to use their art talent to aesthetically bring beauty into the daily life of others. We have successfully participated in community service projects and competitive art exhibitions and winning many awards. To recognize students with exceptional ability and talent , we established a chapter of the National Art Honor Society for students in grades 10-12 under the direction of Mrs. Gegerson, Upper School Visual Arts instructor.
