In
Kindergarten, we use a variety of teaching styles
to engage all of the students in learning. When
you walk into our rooms, you may see whole group
learning, small group center activities, hands-on
learning and lots and lots of reading and writing!!!
We use a balanced literacy approach to teaching
reading, where the students learn to read through
a variety of instructional methods. Since the average
attention span of a kindergartner is not much longer
than 15 minutes, there are many fun transition activities,
which lead into the next subject area. One of our
favorites is singing and doing the "Tooty-Ta" dance!
The
kindergartners have opportunities to grown in other
areas such as Music, Art, Physical Education and
Library Skills by attending these special area classes
throughout the week. Parents are eagerly involved
in classroom activities, helping at instructional
centers, going on field trips and, of course, being
their child's first teacher at home. Listed below
are the names of the publishing company's of certain
textbooks we use in kindergarten. These books are
the basis for the subject areas, however many other
resources are used the enhance learning in the classrooms.
